Buenos Aires, Argentina

For those ICCMO members who were lucky enough to attend the 19th International Congress in Buenos Aires, you know it was one of the best ever. It was filled with excellent scientific presentations and loads of warm, wonderful times. Lecture topics included: sleep apnea, posture, dental development, neuromuscular restorative and orthodontic treatment, NM occlusal equilibration, TMD treatment, holistic dentistry, swallowing and physical therapy.

Close to two hundred dentists from South America, Europe, North America and Asia attended the two day biennial Congress; most with family.  For the first time we experienced three language translations, Spanish, English and Russian. All of ICCMO’s International Sections were represented and members from each gave lectures and poster presentations. This included North America (Canada and USA), France, Italy, Germany, Japan, South America and our newest Section, India.

Since its beginning 37 years ago, ICCMO has held Biennial Congresses in the United States, Canada, Japan, Italy, Germany and France. This year’s Congress was the first held in South America, hosted by one of ICCMO’s most dynamic growing Sections.

What every Congress has in common is a warm fraternal atmosphere in which dentists in private practice and academic institutions with all levels of neuromuscular experience freely exchanged ideas with each other. What is unique to each meeting are the “special” activities that are characteristic of the host country. This year we were treated to performances by professional tango dancers and by our hosts Dr. Myriam Carballo, International Secretary, and her husband, Dr. Carlos Capmourteres, International President, accomplished tango dancers. Special recognition is given to the extraordinary South American Section Congress Team who with years of planning created a perfectly orchestrated meeting and social events.
